Cortico uses several methods of electronic communication, including sending reminders and messages from the plug-in. But how do you know whether the patient has consented to electronic communication?

Cortico offers two different settings for each patient to manage this: "Consented" and "Subscribed"

Subscribed - Patient's communication channel preferences

  1. A patient may be Subcribed on an email address or SMS number, which means the patient is willing to receive messages on that channel.
  2. It is implicit that if a patient provides an email or phone number, we assume they wish to receive administrative communication (not sensitive medical info) such as appointment reminders.
  3. The patient may "opt out" of communication over any number of channels (SMS and/or email).
  4. When a patient is unsubscribed by their own choice or the clinic opts them out, they will not receive ANY message from Cortico on the specified channel. If they are opted out of communication over an email address, we won't send messages, reminders or anything else there.
  5. When a patient vists their portal (from a transactional email) or books online, they can modify their subscription settings.

Consented - Legal consent for patient to use electronic communication

  1. A patient has Consented if they have entered a legal agreement to use Cortico services with the clinic.
  2. It is explicit and the default for a given patient is they have not yet consented.
  3. Once a patient books online, starts to download a file sent by the clinic, or registers on a Kiosk, they will be required to Consent to the terms of service and use of digital communication, if they wish to use Cortico at all.

In our new plug-in update, you may have noticed that there is a pop-up message indicating whether or not the patient has consented to electronic communication, and whether they have subscribed to various communications. This can be seen in the messenger space of the plug-in.
